Considerations to Make When Installing Network Cabling for a Call Center or Large Office Building

Companies that occupy large office buildings and call centers have major needs when it comes to communication. These facilities are homes to hundreds of different devices, all of which need to communicate with each other quickly and efficiently. To accomplish this, the building will need properly installed network cabling. Here are a few things to consider when it comes to network cabling in your large office:

The “Internet of Things” and Digital Buildings

It wasn’t that long ago that the internet was exclusively on the desktop computers in your office and not connected to anything else in your office. Now it seems that nearly everything has the capability of connecting to the internet, from computers to phones to Wi-Fi wearable tech to HVAC systems and security cameras. This ecosystem of interconnected devices is called the “internet of things.” In an office setting, all those communication and data exchanges from one device to another can be supported by a common cabling network.

Choosing the Right Cable Infrastructure

When constructing a new office or moving into a new space, a company must think not just of their current needs, but their potential needs going forward. This same consideration must be made when it comes to determining the right category rating for cable infrastructure. Those involved in the decision-making process must analyze the minimum requirements for all the applications served by the network.

Simple applications such as energy management systems, lighting and environmental sensors may just need a Cat 5e cabling system. However, desktop computing connections, VoIP phones and wireless access points will require infrastructure to be built on at least Cat 6 cabling. For higher bandwidths of up to 10 gigabits per second, Cat 6A is likely the right choice. Anything higher than that will require Cat 8 cabling.

Port Deployment and Density Requirements

As you incorporate more connected devices into your ecosystem, you will need more density for the pathways and spaces that support the network. This will also mean more ports, more large-volume racks, more rack units, and a larger telecommunications room. Additionally, you will likely need more power to run all the interconnected devices.  Multi-Mode or Single Mode fiber optic cabling may be needed to help provide the network transport backbone for your office needs.  Our team can install fiber, Cat 5e, Cat 6, Cat 6A, Cat 7. We build out: MDF/IDF, network racks, ladder tray and other infrastructure needs.
