Trenching/Plowing Overview

The method of installing conduit, telecommunications, electrical, plumbing, HDPE, sprinkler system and other utilities is performed manually or with a trencher over soil and dirt.  The goal is to place the desired utility, conduit, pipe, cable, etc into the ground at a depth of 6”-36” deep.  This can be done by digging a trench by hand with a shovel.  Some have tried digging with a mini excavator, but it can get very messy, takes a large machine and many hours to complete.  The ideal choice for trenching and plowing is using a trencher or a trencher/plower combo unit.  Some of these machines have the ability to drill under sidewalks and driveways up to 30’ in width.  If you need fiber optic cabling, electrical or conduit installed, contact our team today at 757.414.9494.

Our team uses the Ditch Witch 210SX with trenching and plowing capabilities.  It can also handle up to 30’ of boring under a driveway or sidewalk.  This machine is capable of installing conduit up to 4” and HDPE up to ¾”-1.25” along with fiber optic cabling, electrical wiring, plumbing and other utilities. The placement can be adjusted from 6”-36” deep with the trencher and up to 24” deep with the plower.  If you need trenching or plowing, call our team today-757.414.9494.  We can provide turn key design/install services for residential and commercial customers of all conduit, HDPE and other utilities.

Trenching

Machine digs a trench about 6” wide to the desired depth needed.  The trencher will dig up the ground(grass, soil and dirt) along with small gravel and rocks(smaller than a golfball no problem, baseball size max). The trencher will create a dirt mound on the sides of the trench that is dug.  The conduit and/or utility is placed into the trench and then the dirt is filled back in and tamped down.  Our team will tamp down the dirt into the trench, then rake over the area. We will then add grass seed to spread over the disturbed area once completed.

Plowing

Used when no utilities are located by Miss Utility, radar or known by customer.  A blade cuts through the ground (grass, soil and dirt) and the cable or conduit is placed into the desired depth.  There is very little disturbance to the soil and the work is barely noticeable once complete.  Our team will rake over the area disturbed to even out the ground and blend in.  No grass seed is needed since the soil is not dug up.  The plower can install fiber optic cabling, electrical wire, HDPE conduit and other utilities.  It can’t install rigid or PVC conduit but will install most other materials.  The depth can be adjusted from 6”-24” depending on the type of soil and composition of soil, number and size of rocks, etc.

Commercial Conduit

HDPE/Fiber optic cabling/Electrical/Plumbing

Turn key installation from design consultation, engineering drawings prepared for your building or campus.  We can prepare an engineering drawing with the proposed trenching/plowing options for your review and approval. These drawings are required when pulling a permit with the city.  We can install from ¾” to 4” HDPE for your commercial needs with the trencher and up to 1.25” with the plower.  If you need a larger size installed, we can perform the work with a directional boring machine. We work with all types of commercial customers to include: office, warehouse, food, hospitality, school, campus and multi-site locations, strip malls, etc. Please call us today for a free consultation at 757.414.9494 or Email our team at sales@1coastal.com for more information.

Residential Conduit
